OGame is an online browser game and transfers the player in the role of an emperor.
In the year 2002 OGame started on and then spread over the world. The two million accounts are distributed among more than 270 universes, each of which contains a couple of thousand players.
Since German is the creator’s mother tongue, 52 universes are in German language. Other big communities are with 40 universes, with 38 and with 32. Those numbers are of course only a snapshot because new universes are opened all the time.
One on the best party of OGame is its flexibility. You can choose weather you want to build mines and trade in your resources or want to build a fleet.
When you decide to build a fleet you can raid the planets of other players to steal their resources and to prevent others from doing this to your planets you can choose between a vast range of different defence structures. To destroy defence, there are two ways. On is to send interplanetary missile. To calculate the power of IPMs you use the Raksim. The other way is to attack the planet with your fleet but this does of course carry the danger of loosing ships.
Another important aspect about OGame are the alliances. An alliance is formed by players who share the believe they will be stronger when they work together. An alliance is comparable to a clan or guild and often has its own forum and irc-channel. The alliances gained a special importance when a new fighting-system was introduced. Now it is possible for two, three or more players to attack a single planet together. This means, that four weak players with small fleets can kill one big fleet. But it is of course possible that the stronger players calls a friend who will send his fleet to defend the attacked planet.
